Thursday night was an exciting night for the Patriot volleyball team. In an exciting match, the Patriots defeated a strong St. Francis Flyers squad in a close five sets.
The JV started the night off slow, losing their game in two sets. The C-Team played one set and lost. They fought, though, and made an amazing comeback to almost win.
The Varsity Lady Pats came out strong and took the first set from the Flyers. The Flyers came for revenge in the second and came out over the Patriots. The two teams went back and forth, winning alternate sets throughout the game.
The fifth set was extremely intense and the gym was full of cheering fans. The Patriots went on a run at the end for a final score of 15-10 and a huge win for Clarkson-Leigh.
“I was really proud of the way our team played. We played together and we didn’t give up. We didn’t let our mistakes get to us and we were able to pick up a lot of their balls. This win has created a lot of positive energy for us going into conference, ” said junior, Kayden Schumacher.
Schumacher and Stodola contributed 12 kills a piece, and Hoffman led the team with 17. Kennedy Settje picked up the most balls, with 28 digs.
Assistant coach, Brianna Wietfeld said, “What an exciting game we had against St. Francis. This game was a real momentum boost for or team. Our girls have been working hard and it is showing at the right time.we are peaking when we need to be. The game was full of energy and thrill. I loved being on that sideline cheering our girls on as we pushed to victory. Our girls played disciplined and hustled and it paid off. ”

They say volleyball is ninety percent heart, ten percent skill, and ten percent passion. You always give one hundred and ten percent! And that is what the JH volleyball girls did on Monday, October 7 when they crushed the Howells-Dodge Jaguars!
The B team won in two sets, the C team played an exhibition set to 25 and lost by two. And the A team won in two sets 25-13, 25-7.
“We all went into the game with our heads high and it paid off, ” said Tanyn Larson, an eighth grader at Leigh.
“All the girls played really well, ” junior high coach Mr. Seth Cash said. I thought last night’s game was the first complete game we have played. The girls were smart and aggressive. They never allowed Howells to get any momentum. All around a nice job. ”
